Principal Engineer Crop Science
Position Overview: In the team of CropScience data & Analytics we are seeking a highly motivated individual with a strong technical engineering background and relevant experience to join the Vegetable R&D Automation and Robotics team as a Principal Project Engineer. The primary responsibilities of the role are to manage crucial external automation partnerships, provide technical expertise in identifying, evaluating, and driving automation solutions as well as developing and exercising robust project control of key automation projects in the Vegetable R&D portfolio. YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The primary responsibilities of this role, Principal Engineer, are to:
- Leads assigned phases (based on role) of automation projects which may include: concept development, basic engineering, prototyping, detailed engineering and design, procurement, construction, start-up, testing, deployment, and sustainment of automated systems
- Follow Bayer and industry best practices
- Plans and directs team in engineering tasks to ensure all project objectives including safety, technical correctness, budget, constructability, schedule, maintainability, and operability are met
- Develops system architectures and technical strategies within platform
- Partners with other engineering disciplines, customers and vendors/suppliers to create technical strategies and identify project opportunities
- Reviews specifications, drawings, bills of materials, test procedures, and other project documentation
- Reviews check-out, commissioning, testing, start up, and field support plans
- Propose new procedures, standards and practices to stay current with technology and implement improved methods
- Identify risks and design for safety. Review safety strategy, design, and documentation
- Support controlling cost and schedule on assigned projects, including project budget/schedule estimation and proposal
- Directs vendors in all engineering design phases from conceptual design through design review, and system integration
- Mentor engineering staff within platform in technical development both through formal relationships and informal interactions
- Creates intellectual property and adheres to company procedures for intellectual property protection
WHO YOU ARE
Education/Experience
- Bachelor of Science & 8+ years relevant work experience, Master of Science & 6+ years, PhD & 4+ years degree in engineering or science such as Electrical, Mechanical, Agricultural, Imaging, Remote Sensing, Robotics, Electromechanics, Mechatronics, or related field with strong interest in automation.
- Significant and extensive experience in one or more of: automation design, machine design, test engineering, agricultural engineering, automation support, project engineering, or equivalent experience.
- Demonstrated experience leading collaborative relationships with third party suppliers.
Skills (Technical & Soft)
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills to work across disciplines and with people at different levels of management, engineering, suppliers, and internal customers.
- Excellent knowledge of and experience demonstrating project control skills including project planning, scheduling, cost control, and requirements development.
